The Daybook Gallery

The Daybook is inspired by the Mayan calendar known as the Cholq'ij, or Tzolkin.  Ajq'ij, or Daykeeper Mercedes Barrios Longfellow explains that this calendar is made up of 20 signs and the number 13.  Since people have 20 digits, and 13 major joints in the body, this makes this calendar the 'Human' calendar.  In addition, 20 x 13 totals 260, which is the approximate length of human gestation.  After 25 years of research, Gerardo Barrios has determined the most widely used glyphs, and thus the ones that have the strongest lineage.  These can be seen in the calendar that the Barrios create every year, which can be ordered by writing to them here.

The following artworks are representations of the days in the Cholq'ij, and in no way are they Mayan in origin.  However they may be used as a meditative tool, either individually or collectively day by day.
